How has community leadership expanded….?

March 1st, 2008 by judym

How has community leadership expanded since we began Horizons and are more people in the community involved in leadership positions? These are some questions we have been asked to address and we would like some comments from all out there!

Are we training new leaders ? There is a project being researched right now about teaching LeadershipPlenty to our juniors and seniors at Bon Homme High School. I can tell you that this would not be happening at all if we had not participated in the Horizons project. We have certified leadership trainers now in our community that are able to do this. Do you think this is a good idea? Post your comments and tell us what you think.

I think it is a great idea to take this into the school for the students. They will benefit from it greatly I feel. It was something I thought should be used in Armour too.
I saw your comment on our website about the welcome banquet. This was something started years ago to welcome new teachers to town and continued from there. We let it slide a couple years and last year came back in full force. How it is arranged is through our community club - we invite new comers to our town and surrounding area from the past year. (We pay for their meal) We then sale tickets to the community. Traditionally we pair up a community club member with a new family and they also personnally invite the family. Then at the banquet we ask them to pair up with them to introduce them. (This year we didn’t do that and noticed a decrease in new comers at the banquet). This is a casual banquet and children friendly.
This past year we also invited our “citizen’s of the month” as a thank you for all that they have done throughout the year.

Thanks a lot for your information. I hope others will read it in the comment section. I will be mentioning this to Chamber. Maybe it could be added to the Christmas activities.
