All classes from Bon Homme High School are being challenged! If your class donates the most funds to the new Tyndall Community Foundation, you will be honored at the Homecoming Parade in September and at the Homecoming Game that evening. Please support our new community savings account by sending in any size donation to Tyndall Community Foundation, Box 454, Tyndall, SD 57066. This savings account’s interest will be used back into the community once our goal of $100,000 is reached. Help us reach this goal. This benefits Tyndall organizations, new businesses, expanding businesses and more!
Tyndall’s Bargain Shoppe has expanded 8 more feet!!! That doesn’t sound like a lot, but it is amazing how more organized it is and also there is a window now to use for visual merchandising. The all - volunteer crew there have worked so hard and as a result, they have contributed lots of dollars back into the community and also help out the Cav Corner next door with some of their expenses. Last month’s bag sale netted over $1000. That’s alot of bags. More volunteers could be used as always, so stop in and see if you can lend a hand. If your organization gets a donation from the Bargain Shoppe, how about helping them out one day a month! The volunteers are tracking sales through zip codes to see where they should advertise and if their advertising is working. They are also planning to put their accounting onto a file on the computer using “Quicken” or something similar. They will be able to use the laptop that Tyndall Horizons earned if they need it. Great job volunteers!
June 13 will be the day for city-wide rummage. Sign up at Hometown Floral, Diane’s Dollar Plus, or Art & Antique Gallery in Tyndall. Fee is $8.00 for a residence. The Cavalier Corner is taking their own sign-ups and are first come, first served. This is the only indoor place. When you sign up, payment is due. You get a sign and also a listing in the Tyndall Tribune and there is also a map of Tyndall with your listings on the back. Good deal! Deadline to sign up is June 5.
The Bargain Shoppe will be open that day too! Stop in to see what they have new. They have everything very nicely displayed.
Tyndall Chamber agreed to have the city-wide garage sales on June 13. Watch for information on signups and fees. The Cav Corner will offer table/tables - you will need to sign up there if you want to be in there. First come, first served. A map will again be produced. More information to come…watch the Tyndall Tribune.
Tyndall will be seeing the homecoming parade again…. businesses and organizations are invited to enter the parade-watch for information from the school, or you can give the school business office a call…… Homecoming is in Sept.
Tyndall Horizons steering committee continues to meet with Dave in regards to the projects we chose to work on in Tyndall. We added a daycare project which hit some bumps in the road, but is going to make it I think. It takes a committed team and also a great deal of support from rural affairs office over in Lake Andes to keep things going in the right direction. Tyndall already has 3 wonderful daycare providers, plus other individuals who babysit, but the city is in need of another to balance out the needs of all the young families. They are working through another organization in town to help facilitate the project. The Tyndall Community Foundation is growing its fund, albeit slowly. We have a goal of $100,000 in five years. We are going to have to go a little faster and better than we are now to get that, but again, commitment to the project is needed by the Board and the community as a whole. The website is up and running, we have a few more businesses to get online. The calendar of events is kept current-check it out at tyndallsd.com. The Cavalier Corner has their loan almost paid off, thanks in great part to some faithful donations by the Koening Insurance and the William Hoch foundation and the hard work of Janet Wagner, the unofficial manager of the place. Connected right to it is the Bargain Shoppe, which had a couple of hic-cups but is now again beautifully arranged and working well. They always need volunteers though…..that is always the issue!!! Public Policy is not meeting as far as I know, but we counted Money 4 Living as one of their projects. The frisbee golf for the park is progressing….the nets are all in place and now the committee is getting ready to clear with the city the places to put in the tee markers, and also discuss how to provide some golf discs to the public, possibly through the swimming pool concession stand. A few things to figure out there…..what else….we have sort of given up on an economic development coordinator at this time, especially since the economy tanked and is now catching up to us in our area. We lost the hardware store…..anybody want to move to Tyndall and set up a hardware store? We have a great need for that service in our community. I guess that’s it for the update….we continue to stress shopping at home first.
Our Money 4 Living workshop for adults was so successful that we planned one for the middle school kids, in cooperation with the Bon Homme Extension Office. Actually, they did all the work, and for the five kids and one parent that did show up, it was a great presentation on how to manage your allowance, how do your Mom and Dad manage their money and how is it important to you, and other “kid” - related financial matters. The bank sent someone to talk about savings, and they also involved two upperclassmen to help with the presentation. If you want to do something like that in your community, you can call the Bon Homme Extension Office at 605-589-3531 and ask for Amanda Larson. She will help you get started in the right direction.
38 residents from Avon, Springfield and Tyndall attended the Money 4 Living workshop that was put together by Tyndall Horizons and the Bon Homme Extension and Hutchinson County Extension offices on Jan 21 in Tyndall. It was a diverse group of attendees that listened to anecdotal hints on budgeting and saving and also a nice powerpoint presentation. Handouts helped with some forms to use to keep track of expenses and such, so that figuring out where your money goes is easier. Tyndall Horizons prepared the free meal and Extension provided some door prizes. The reason this workshop was put together was because Tyndall Horizons had $500 to use for an educational event or purpose. It was a timely topic and really was beneficial to those attending and thanks to the powers-that-be for the $500!
